The Forgotten Warrior

As told by  Grandma Lillie Holmes: I am the youngest of five children,Sam Johnson Jr (Bo) being the oldest, and after him came Hayes Melvin Honeywood Sr(Tardie), then John Clarence Peyton-Miles Sr (J.C) or (Brother), then Annie Mae Carr-Miles (Annie) and then me, Jesse Lee Thomas-Miles Sr (Sonny)..
Now I didn't know too much about my brother Hayes, because he was in the army, and fought in the Korean War. I only heard moma talk about his days as a Golden Glove Lightwieght Contender while he was in the army. She said she sent him  care packages, and sometimes he got them, and sometimes he didn't.She said he got a box from her, she sent him candles, and other things he needed, the candles got broken, he was sharing them with his buddies, but one white soldier got his boxers in a knot, and wanted to fight him for the rest of the things he had in his box. WOW!!!

when I really got to meet my brother, I was seven years old, he was married, and had children, Melvin, Cynthia, and Juwana. My brother died in 1988 while I was in La visiting him.The cancer had eaten him alive. We were in the process of getting to know each other a little better. I salute my brother the forgotten  warrior, Haye Honeywood.

Mr Pepper is the last of The Delta Hummingbirds, a ledgen in his own time.Mr Pepper sang with The L&S Singers of Lexington,Mississippi, and still doing Solo debuts$10.00.

Now we are in the midist of  North East Mississippi,Another ledegendary group, The Harmonious Harmoneers. The founders of this group still exist, although the younger generation have taken control of the groups future, and given it a new twist, and flavor. This group hails from Oxford Mississippi, and really put the Quartet Balance into play. With a rich mixture of Tones, they have given the present founders a gift, that can never be taken away. They are being considered for a Hill Boy Award for the year of 2012, and they are being booked through Hill Boy Music. One of the leaders in the group is a young minister by the name of Barry Reynolds,he can preach, and sing. Now here is a young lady she will sing you to another level, and I do mean another level. Minister Celeste Crenshaw of Haynesville Alabama, is a true professional, and a lady. Her songs are personal, and they do tell a story. She writes her own material, and it sells right off of the shelf. She made it her business to come to the Annual Hill Boy Music & Achievement Awards in Gloster, March 12 2011, and performed to the third degree. Her ministry is real, and very testimonial. He theme track, "Feel My Spirit" is a best seller, and really tells the listeners about her personal battles she fought to get to where she is now$10.00.
Hear Ye, Hear Ye, some of the most powerful Quartet singing out of the Mississippi Delta, is at hand. For some unknown reason, these youngmen can make you feel what they feel when they sing. There is a young minister in the group, and when he is unleashed, it is like a bullet being fired through a canon, very powerful, and very annointed. The Chosen Sons share past history with their organization, members go way back in time from the cotton fields of Sunflower County to present. These youngmen are the winners of the 2011 Hill Boy Music Award, and are looking to break the barrier for next year. They are from Leland, Ms, and have a devoted fan following. They will show you how to "Cross Over" Jordan River,$10.00.

Artist, When & Why To Leave Home

"Well, I  Have Tried To Get The Community Involved, But They Don't Seem To Care", you are so right, the average person that proclaimes to be "all that and a bag of chips", will not support your programs if you are not in the "Clique" or "Loop". If you have a  band, group..ect., leave your hometown and venture into new territory.Always make it a point to meet new people. If you try to make things work on your own, forget it.Most people would rather see a Major Artist in your backyard than you. That is what we call "Spite" in the music business.Remember that Major Group got their start from somewhere, and you can bet it was not in their backyard.

Once you have established your group/band,seek out contacts outside of your community, even the state.Try to get a good working relationship with your new contact(s) and invite them over to one of your programs.Try to atleast pay for their gas and lodging. You never know how far you can get by being humble, and honest. Never, ever, over look the groups that support you on your programs. If you are having a Major Program with Major Artist, include your supporters, they will look out for you in many ways. These are the people to most likely set up programs to have you on them if your status is above average. In the near future, work with others, and see if the favor will be returned. If it doesn't come back, you will know they were not in your best interest. How Not To Promote

Saturday April 9th 2011, Holly Springs Mississippi, 6:30pm at the Eddie L Smith Multi-Purpose Building. I have seen some good programs, and have seen some bad programs, but this one took the cake, and ate it too. The promoter of the Awards Program did not have his ducks in order. He wanted to run the kitchen without the things need for the cook to use to get the food out to the people. His knowledge of  a program is limited, I mean 0 to the 0 power.
The people that he wanted to honor did not show their face in the place, and the ones that did show up, was tricked into comming, and they were angry about the trickery. The host wanted to do everything, and be everywhere doing other people jobs that were assigned. He cheated himself out of funds, by letting another vendor set up in front of the building, and sell a variety of foods. He did not cover his cooks expense, nor his MC, but he paid other  performers that were not on the program, and was trying to use deceptions to make a buck.
I will not mention tyhe name of the company, but I will say this,he is bad for promotions, and his ideas of trickery will get him in hot water, and maybe harsh treatment. He had a very good package of artist to carry the program over, but he did not know how to interject them into real time.. It takes time, and know how to promote artist. This none promoter gets (0 broken keys.)

These artist below did an outstanding job, they were very professional in what they did, and had the audiance involved in the service. They are easy on the eyes and ears, and knew when to take their seats. There were some overage in other performers, but these young ladies, and men proved they are ready for a Hill Boy Award in 2012.They get (5 broken keys)
Out of West Memphis Arkansas, you will have to see it to believe it. These three young men are well on their way to the top of the heap. I heard with my own two ears, sweet music from a 10year old on a lead guitar, that"s him with the glasses on, and the drummer, and the Bass Guitar, you would've thought you was at a concert meant for the stars. I was very impressed  at what I saw and heard. The showmanship was great, the timing was perfect, and the music was friendly to the ears. They are the type of act, you will come see again, and again. They get (6 broken keys) from the ring!!!! They had the audiance wanting more,a good start.......

DON'T SING THAT!!

Just a few words to the wise, if you plan on making a new CD, be very careful about that, what I'm trying to say is, make sure you are not recording someone else project for your own. Most artist will disregard the fact that the music is not theirs, and want to do the copyright thing, and get it on the market to earn revenue. There are a pleny of writers out there can be of service to artist seeking new material to do.You can ask permission from the artist or publisher to do a certain track or songs, don't take it on your own, you might not sing it like the original artist..
Everyday people are taking music and trying to turn it around to suit themselves, that is "tacky".

The Sensational Veal Brothers

We are looking at 38years of singing with The Veal Brothers.Larry is holding The Hill Boy Award, his mom looks on and his nephew Charles"Smurf" Veal Jr, the keyboardist for the group. They are from Gloster USA,home grown. They have gone from home made suits, to tailored suits. They are the only Quartet in Gloster that is on a Major Label, and traveled the world over. They shared the moment with The Chosen Sons. To all of the artist looking for the easy road, sorry no such thing. They travel with their father "Pop" Veal, whom is a ledgen in his own time. They are members of Sweet Home Baptist Church, pastored by Rev.Robert Veal Junior, The track that got them in the winners spot..."Down At The Crossroads".The M&N Singers did this song to the group as a tribute. The Veal Brothers have paid their dues, and are here to tell you, the road is not easy. They write, produce, and sing their own tracks, this what make them stand out from other area artist. They have the drive, and Umph!, that push their talent to another level. They are the "Sounds of Gloster", and every town, city, or parrish, can identify with their own artist. They are working on their 5th CD, and you can bet it will have the taste and southern flavor that makes all of their projects successful........."There's Something Going On In Here".

The Chosen Sons

Over the years of singing, this group of men were passed over by promoters, radio, and other performing Artist. For some unknown reason they were shut out of the music circle, not because of their music, or lyrics. They have music that will soothe your soul, and captivate your spirit. They were made to struggle, to suffer, and not make mainstream gospel review. For the last four years, they have been in the Crosshairs of Hill Boy Music, and was being preped for the change in thier lives, and the way the public would recieve them as a gospel group in a leadership posistion. They are very talented, and most of all God Fearing. They were graded in a lot of areas, and was suggested for a shot at the Hill Boy Award, they scored. They are the 2011 winners of The Hill Boy Award, representing The Delta Of Mississippi. They sets the standards, they are "Quartet".
